Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of September 26, 2005 - Page 2By Vangie Beal September 27, 2005SDRAMThis week we have more price movement in the SDRAM camp, and those changes are some of the higher amounts we've seen on SDRAM modules in quite some time. Starting with the price increases, we have a $4 jump on PC133 CAS3 128-MB, which is now selling for $38. Dropping in price this week is PC133 ECC 128-MB and PC133 ECC 512-MB, which are both down by $3. Those looking for PC133 CAS2 256-MB will be pleased with the $42 price tag, or a nice $5 savings over our last guide. DDR modules have typically been the category with the most price fluctuations, but this week we see very little movement here. If you're shopping around for PC2100 128-MB you'll save a mere dollar while both PC2100 256-MB and PC4000 512-MB have increased by $1 this week. Unfortunately, our DDR2 modules show no price change at all. This week, RDRAM turns out to be the big mover and shaker, with lots of news worth mentioning, especially if saving money on RDRAM upgrades is a priority. On the lower end of the savings scale, both PC800 256-MB and PC800 ECC 256-MB have dropped in price by $3. The 512-MB modules offer bigger savings, with an $8 drop on PC800 ECC 512-MB, bringing it down to $97 and an even nicer price cut of $14 on PC800 512-MB, which is now at $125. Of course with the good, you usually must take the bad as well, but RDRAM prices actually haven't gone up much at all. Our only price increase is a small $2 raise on PC800 128-MB. Consumers can find a good deal this week, but it still depends on the specific type of memory you're looking for. The trend on RDRAM is certainly toward lower prices this week, while DDR and DDR2 modules have hardly changed at all - something we haven't seen a lot of lately. Overall, there are more price drops than increases throughout the guide, and even if the change is small it's still a few dollars you won't have to shell out. If you're scouring the Internet for memory prices, it is a good idea to look for those reputable vendors who don't make money off shipping costs; remember this is a cost not factored into our guide and it will help keep your final purchase price low. So until next time, happy upgrading.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
