Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of October 10, 2005 - Page 2By Vangie Beal October 10, 2005SDRAMUnlike our last guide, there has been very little movement across the board on SDRAM memory. While most modules remain unchanged in price, those that do reflect a price change have posted a decrease. This includes a $4 savings on PC133 CAS3 256-MB, and a $3 savings on PC133 CAS2 256-MB, now selling for $39. Our last guide provided details on a $5 drop to PC133 CAS2 256-MB, and over the past month we've seen this memory come down in price by a total of $8 which certainly makes for a more affordable upgrade this week. Following the trends of our last price guide, we're again not seeing a whole lot of movement in the DDR/DDR2 category. While PC2700 128-MB and PC2700 256-MB are down in price by $1 and $2 respectively, unfortunately those savings are countered by a couple of larger price increases. PC3200 256-MB is up $4 to $25, and anyone looking for PC4200 256-MB this week will have to shell out $60, which is a $5 increase this week. Those who are looking at upgrading DDR2 memory will be pleased to see that although DDR2-667 memory remains unchanged in price, DDR2-533 256-MB offers a $3 savings and the price of DDR2-533 512-MB is down by $2 this week. RDRAM is still the most undecided category - by that we mean prices just can't settle in with a downward or upward overall pricing trend. We have the usual $1 price increases and decreases along with $2 savings on both PC800 ECC 512-MB and PC1066 256-MB (184 pin). PC800 ECC 128-MB is up by $3 this week and a couple of RDRAM modules do remain unchanged in price. Overall savings are few and far between this week, but the good news is that if you are planning to buy, none of the modules in our guide has gone up more than $5 since our last report. The best savings we could find this week came in on a couple $3 and $4 drops, with most memory price fluctuations staying in the under-$2 category overall. Consumers looking for a good deal this week are sure to be disappointed, but at least no one will be shelling out much extra for their memory upgrade. So be sure to check out individual vendor websites to see if you can nab a shipping deal, which just might amount to a greater dollar savings than our price guide can offer.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
