Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of December 19, 2005 - Page 2By SharkyExtreme.com Staff December 19, 2005SDRAMThis week, the SDRAM memory market is very consistent, with only two modules showing any real price change. PC133 CAS3 512MB is down $5 and PC133 CAS2 128MB increased by $6, while the rest of the listings were very stable, with only a couple moving up or down by a small amount. Overall DDR prices are again the most active of entire chart, but you need to move to at least PC3200 to see any real activity. PC2100 to PC2700 prices were again very stable, but PC3200 512MB and 1GB dropped $2 and $4, respectively, and started us on our way. PC3700 512MB fell by $5 and PC4200 512MB dropped by $7, while PC4000 1GB and PC4200 256MB both received $10 cuts. It wasn't all good news, as PC4000 512MB increased by $15, the largest price change on our chart. DDR2 memory prices were not as active as the DDR side, but there was still some good news for consumers. Overall DDR2 prices dropped, and in fact, every module is now priced lower than it was in our last update. There were also some healthy cuts through both the DDR2-533 and -667 listings, but in order to get the largest price break, you'll need to go to the top of the speed chart, where DDR2-800 512MB fell by $10. This week's RDRAM price list is definitely not good news for potential upgraders, and there were more price increases than decreases. At a measly $1 off, PC800 ECC 256MB is the only RDRAM price drop, while PC800 512MB and PC800 ECC 512MB rose by $6 each, and PC800 256MB jumped by $8. This week again shows some very positive trends for memory buyers, especially in the DDR and DDR2 areas. This is where we find the real pricing activity, the majority of which is in the consumer's favor. SDRAM is mostly a wash, while RDRAM buyers will have some unexpected price increases to deal with. Don't forget to keep an eye on your overall shipping costs and watch for holiday deals, as this is a smart way to lower the overall price you end up paying for your system memory.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
