Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of January 30, 2006 - Page 2By Vangie Beal January 30, 2006SDRAMFollowing last week's SDRAM trend, we again see stable prices and very little movement in either direction. In fact, we chart only a single SDRAM module price change this week, and that is a $2 increase on PC133 CAS2 128-MB, which is now at $46. This $2 shift also reflects the only price change on this module in the past 6 weeks. This week's update has DDR prices right in line with our last Memory Price Guide. Having seen several changes over the $10 mark last time, we were quite surprised to see only a few small price shifts this week. All the PC2100, PC2700, PC3200, as well as the PC3700 modules we list remain unchanged in price this week, while PC3500 brings forth only a single $1 price increase on PC3500 512-MB. PC4200 256-MB dropped by $2 to sit at $43 and PC4000 1-GB is up $3 to $125. Unlike our last update, where DDR2 memory prices were more active, these remain unchanged in price for the week. RDRAM seems to be the mover and shaker on our price list this week, and while the fluctuations don't amount to a high dollar value, we do see more price changes here than in other categories of our guide. With a vendor change, $5 was shaved off the price of PC1066 256-MB (184pin) and prices on both PC800 512-MB and PC800 ECC 512-MB are down by a buck. Stability is the name of the game for our latest price guide, and while consumers will only find limited price drops on memory this week, there is not an instance of needing to shell out those extra dollars if you've held off on buying until now. The prices on DDR2 modules have settled down as well, and surprisingly, it's RDRAM memory showing the largest and most frequent price fluctuations. As we head into February, it's a good practice to check with local franchise shops to see if they are willing to come close or even match Internet prices, giving you, the consumers the best deal, as this will save on potential shipping costs and give you easier returns.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
