Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of May 22, 2006 - Page 2By Vangie Beal May 22, 2006SDRAMThis week we see virtually no activity in the SDRAM chart, with the only price change for the week being a small $1 drop on PC133 ECC 128-MB, which is now selling for $27. DDR modules show a bit more movement this week, but unfortunately for the consumer, the larger shifts all result in higher prices. PC3500 512-MB went up by $10 to $105 and we see a $5 increase on PC4000 512-MB, now selling at a price of $110 this week. The price drops here are pretty slim as well, as a $2 cut to PC2700 256-MB was the best we could find. DDR2 price changes are more in line with SDRAM prices this week - we didn't mark a single fluctuation in this category. The RDRAM chart shows more price fluctuations this week, at least compared to our other categories of memory that is. While overall dollar amounts are quite low, we do see both increases and decreases here. PC800 512-MB and PC800 ECC 512-MB are both up in price by $2, while the price of PC800 256MB is down $4 to $76. We also spotted a few $1 price decreases and a nicer $3 savings on PC1066 512-MB (184 pin). Overall memory prices can change frequently, but as our guide shows, without any major happenings in the industry itself, it usually translates into small dollar amounts, as online vendors compete for your upgrade dollars. The only real sore spot this week is the $10 spike on PC3500 512-MB, but otherwise it was a pretty good week for both new system buyers and upgrades. Also, be to check out individual vendor Web sites and see if you can nab a shipping deal, which may amount to a greater dollar savings than our price guide can offer.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
