The number of dual-channel DDR platforms continues to increase, and has really created a different section of the memory market. The "matched pair" format is becoming increasingly popular, as these DDR module kits are perfectly suited for the requirements of high-end dual-channel DDR operation, and are a much safer buy than purchasing one module now and hoping to match it up later. The most popular configurations are currently the 2x512-MB and 2x1-GB kits, and with few exceptions, vendors offer the same basic speeds in matched pair DDR kits, as with their single module DDR.
As the single module DDR listings are very stable again this week, we anticipated the same trends would be there for dual channel DDR. That is not the case, and unfortunately, the difference does not fall in the consumer's favor. The aggregate chart shift is in the positive this week, totaling out to a $62 increase. There was some downward movement, as three listings received double-digit price cuts, but there were also a trio of similar price increases, with the two larger ones, Corsair XMS PC3200LL 2x512-MB (+$35) and Mushkin eXtreme PC4000 2x1-GB (+$38) taking the wind out of the DDR sails.
