Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of July 17, 2006 - Page 2By Vangie Beal July 19, 2006SDRAMThis week we see more price changes on SDRAM memory, both in the positive and negative columns. Starting with the smaller price changes, we see PC133 ECC 512-MB and PC133 CAS2 256-MB are down $2 and $1 respectively, while the price of PC133 ECC 128MB increased by $1. This week, upgraders looking for PC133 CAS2 128-MB will be pleased with the $29 price tag, a savings of $6. Unfortunately the price of PC133 ECC 256-MB is up in price by $5 to $32. DDR price activity is very limited this week, although we do see some larger price changes overall. The price of PC3200 512-MB is up $2 this week while PC4200 256-MB is down by $2. The big price differences are seen on PC4200 512-MB, which is down $11 to $69, and PC4000 1-GB, which increased $7 to $144. DDR2 prices display lower dollar value changes, but unfortunately, they are all increases this week. The shift to DDR2-533 512-MB is only $1, but we see the price of DDR2-667 512-MB and DDR2-800 1-GB each increasing by $5, making the final prices $63 and $120, respectively. DDR2-800 512-MB is also up by $3 to $83 this week. This week's RDRAM section is quite a mixed bag of goodies. We have the usual $1 price changes mixed in with larger savings, like a $4 cut to PC800 512-MB now at $121, as well as $4 drop on both PC800 128-MB and PC800 ECC 512-MB modules. PC1066 184-pin modules getting harder to find as fewer vendors seem to be carrying these right now. To this end, we have vendor changes listed for both the 184-pin modules and with that, comes the natural price increases. PC1066 256-MB 184-pin is up $10 to $109 and the price of PC1066 512-MB 184PIN now sits at $222, a $17 increase over out last guide. The summer heat seems to have also sent some memory prices soaring up right along side the temperatures. PC1066 184-pin prices are quite disappointing, with the both modules hitting the '$10 and over' price increase mark. While the majority of memory prices do remain unchanged this week, the modules that do reflect a price change show dollar values higher than usual. Consumers looking for SDRAM memory upgrades will find a few lower prices this week including PC133 ECC 512- MB and PC133 CAS2 128-MB but if DDR2 is where your upgrade needs are, you might end up paying a few dollars more if you held off until this week to purchase. Don't forget to keep an eye on your overall shipping costs and watch for online shipping deals, as this is a smart way to lower the overall price you end up paying for your system memory.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
