Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of July 31, 2006 - Page 2By Vangie Beal July 31, 2006SDRAMThis week we see more price drops than increases on SDRAM memory. Along with two $1 price cuts, we also have PC133 ECC 256-MB and PC133 CAS2 128-MB modules down by $2. Those looking for PC133 ECC 512-MB will pay $45 this week - a savings of $3. A few modules remain unchanged in price, and we do not have a single price increase on SDRAM to report this week. Unfortunately, DDR and DDR2 prices aren't following the trend we found with SDRAM. Here most of the activity results in higher prices this week. Starting with DDR-SDRAM, we have both PC2100 512-MB and PC4200 512-MB up $3 to $37 and $72 respectively. The odd $1 and $2 increases can also be found, along with a jump of $6 on PC4000 1-GB, which is now at $150. DDR2 is more of a mixed bag, with a couple of price drops tossed in with the increases. DDR2-533 1GB and DDR2-667 256MB are up $3 each, while DDR2-800 512-MB increased $5 to $88 and DDR2-800 1-GB jumped by $5 to $125. DDR2-667 1-GB fell $2 to $68 and a bit better deal can be found on DDR2-667 512-MB which is down $4 to $59. RDRAM was a bit of a surprise this week, as we see only two changes here, and both are both price decreases. The price of PC800 256-MB is down $2 to $73, and with a vendor change we also have a $10 savings to report on PC1066 256-MB (184 pin), which now sits at $91. Other than these two price drops, the rest of the RDRAM chart remains unchanged. As we head out of July 2006, memory prices remain relatively stable with mostly small ($5 and under) price fluctuations. There is of course a $10 savings on PC1066 256-MB (184 pin) which may make it worth a second look this week. We see PC4000 1-GB up by $6, so it isn't an attractive purchase this week, should you be in need of an upgrade. Looking back from our July 3, 2006 price guide to today, we do see some big price changes, when viewed as overall movement from the beginning to end of July 2006. Starting with the first guide of July, the price of PC133 CAS2 128-MB was $45 - it's now down $18 to its price of $27 in this guide. PC1066 512-MB (184 pin) displays a $17 increase through July ($205 to $222) and DDR2-800 1-GB also shows a total $10 increase ($115 up to $125). The other big price drop we see is PC4200 512-MB, which fell a total of $28. On July 3rd, we tracked this memory at $100 compared to $72 for July 31, 2006.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
