Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of August 14, 2006 - Page 2By Vangie Beal August 14, 2006SDRAMThis week's SDRAM prices haven't moved too much in either direction. While we see a few modules up in price by $1, the only other increase comes by way of a $2 jump to PC133 CAS2 256-MB, which is now at $55. The only price drop recorded was a small $1 decrease on the price of PC133 ECC 512-MB. While not many DDR SDRAM modules have increased in price this week, a couple of those spiked by $5 or more. PC3500 256-MB rose from $49 to $54 this week and we also see a $7 increase on PC3500 512-MB, which is currently at $111. Two additional modules are up by $1, and we don't have a single price drop in the DDR list this week. DDR2 prices are a bit more stable compared to DDR. We found two small price increases, including a $1 increase on DDR2-533 512-MB along with a $2 increase on DDR2-533 1-GB. The only savings to be had on DDR2 is the $2 price drop on DDR2-667 512-MB, now selling for $57. This week's RDRAM prices are a bit mixed, but here we are seeing the price changes mostly hang around the $5 mark. A $2 savings can be found on PC800 ECC 256-MB, while the price of PC800 ECC 512-MB went down $5 to $116. Both PC800 512-MB and PC1066 512-MB (184pin) are up in price by $5 each, to $126 and $245 respectively. Overall, we don't have a significant amount of price activity to report in our Memory Price Guide, but unlike previous weeks, many of those changes hit or exceeded the $5 mark. In terms of savings, the $5 cut to PC800 ECC 512-MB might look favorable to some consumers, but other than this price drop, a dollar here or there is all that our guide offers this week. Consumers in the market for PC3500 512-MB will shell out an extra $7 and a few RDRAM modules are also up by $5, which may make some hold off on buying for another week or so. With such small dollar amounts in savings this week, you might want to consider looking at saving money on your memory upgrade by nabbing a good shipping deal. The shipping cost is not added into our guide, and any savings there, could net you a better overall deal.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
