Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of September 11, 2006 - Page 2By Vangie Beal September 11, 2006SDRAMThis week, we're seeing a few price drops in the SDRAM listings that offer consumers a bit of a break on upgrade costs. PC133 ECC 256-MB dropped $4 to $24 while the price of PC133 CAS3 128-MB and PC133 CAS3 512-MB fell by $2 and $3 respectively. Most SDRAM modules remain unchanged in price, and the only increase on the chart was a $1 jump to the price of PC133 ECC 512-MB. Unlike SDRAM, DDR prices are on the rise this week. Several modules increased in price, including PC2100 512-MB which is up $4 to $42, and PC3200 1-GB sits at $86, which jumped by $3 compared to our last guide. We also see PC3200 256-MB and PC3500 256-MB rising by $2, and the only DDR price drop is a $3 savings on PC4200 512-MB, and is now at $72. The news on DDR2 prices isn't much better for upgraders this week. Consumers will find $2 in savings on DDR2-667 512-MB mixed in with a $2 increase on DDR2-533 1-GB and $3 price increases to both DDR2-533 256-MB and DDR2-533 512-MB modules. DDR2-800 price levels remain unchanged this week. RDRAM prices have shown the most movement over the past few updates, and this week is no exception. Starting at the top of the list, we see PC800 256-MB up in price by $5 to $77, followed by a $2 increase on PC800 512-MB. The price of PC800 ECC 256-MB dropped by $2 and those looking for PC800 ECC 512-MB will be pleased to see it at $111 - a $5 savings. PC1066 512-MB 184-pin jumped $14 to $259 this week, while the price of PC1066 256-MB 184-pin fell by $3 to $88. Overall, this week's Memory Price Guide shows smaller price fluctuations in both directions, with only PC1066 512-MB 184-pin able to hit double-digits. Unfortunately, this resulted in a $14 price increase. For the most part, both SDRAM and RDRAM reflect more price drops than usual but DDR and DDR2 modules are up in price slightly. It's always a good practice to check with local franchise shops to see if they are willing to come close or price match Internet prices, giving you, the consumers the best deal, as shipping costs won't need to be factored in. Failing that, it is important to check for vendors who offer low-cost, discounted or free shipping, as this is a smart way to lower the overall price you end up paying for your system memory.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
