Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of September 25, 2006 - Page 2By Vangie Beal September 25, 2006SDRAMThis week we're seeing virtually no change, across the board, on SDRAM prices. All SDRAM modules, except for PC133 CAS2 512-MB - which went down by $1, displayed stable price levels. Obviously, consumers who are wanting save a few dollars won't find that on SDRAM prices this week, but of course, you won't have to spend any more either. We find DDR and DDR2 modules up in price compared to our recent price reports. Starting with PC2100, the 256-MB and 512-MB modules jumped by $2 and $3, respectively. We also have a $3 jump to PC2700 512MB and a $5 increase on PC2700 256-MB memory. PC3200 looks a bit better with a $2 increase on PC3200 512MB, now at $49, and a $2 price drop on PC3200 1GB. PC3500 512-MB also shows a $5 increase, and on PC3700 and PC4200 we see the price increases run out of steam, as the only change here is a $1 savings on PC4200 256-MB. The DDR2 module listings show both increases and decreases this week, offering consumers a $5 savings on DDR2-533 256-MB, but the price of DDR2-800 1-GB went up $5 to $130 to start the week. RDRAM is a hit and miss for consumers this week. We see price fluctuations in both directions, so overall RDRAM isn't going to offer much of a deal unless you're specifically looking for PC800 512-MB which is down $4 to $114. On the rise, we see that PC800 ECC 512-MB gained $3 to sit at a price of $114. We're definitely seeing more modules hitting that $5 and over price change level this week, but unfortunately these are mostly price increases. Mixed in with the surging prices, consumers can still find a few good deals on system memory, such as a $4 drop on PC800 512-MB and a $5 savings off the price of DDR2-533 256-MB. For those looking to purchase system memory, we suggest searching for a good shipping deal to help offset some of the memory prices, especially the rising cost of DDR and DDR2 modules. This is one of the best ways to lower the overall price you end up paying for your memory.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
