Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of October 9, 2006 - Page 2By Vangie Beal October 9, 2006SDRAMThis week we see the prices on SDRAM memory remain pretty stable. Most of the modules we track are unchanged in price this week, however we do see a $5 price drop on PC133 CAS2 512-MB - now selling for $76.00. The PC133 512-MB modules (both ECC and CAS3) are also down by a dollar this week, but other than those few changes, overall SDRAM is at its usual price level. Our previous guide noted an overall price increase on DDR and DDR2 modules, and this week we see the same trend continue, but on specific modules only, rather than increases across the board. PC2100 512-MB is up $4 to $49, and consumers looking for PC2700 512-MB will spend a total of $53 - an additional $6 this week. PC3200 512-MB jumped $6 to $55, while other price increases include a smaller $2 increase on PC2700 256-MB, and PC2100 512-MB and PC3200 1G-GB prices rose by $4 and $5, respectively. The only real savings on DDR memory comes in on PC3700 512-MB, which dropped $7 to $78 this week. This week's DDR2 price list isn't a whole lot better. DDR2-533 512-MB is up $5 to $44 and we found DDR2-800 1-GB at a price $8 higher than our last report. A $10 price increase is shown on DDR2-667 1GB, but this is a bit misleading as we've switched out to a new vendor this week. RDRAM is one area of our memory price Guide where consumers may be able to take advantage of a few price drops. PC800 512-MB offers a $6 savings over our last guide, and the price of PC800 ECC 512-MB is down to $99, which represents a $5 drop. The only other change on RDRAM is a $2 price cut to PC800 ECC 128-MB. Overall, we still see the bulk of memory chart activity coming out as price increases, and similar to our last report, many of those these jumps are near or over the $5 mark. Both SDRAM and RDRAM offer the greatest savings this week, while prices on DDR and DDR2 are still going up, with very few exceptions. If you need to make your memory purchase before price levels manage to settle a bit, remember to check with local franchise shops to see if they are willing to come close to, or even match, Internet prices, which could save you shipping charges and get the product in your hands faster.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
