Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of October 23, 2006 - Page 2By Vangie Beal October 23, 2006SDRAMWhile our last price guide saw mostly consistent prices on SDRAM modules, consumers looking to buy this week may be able to save a few dollars. Both PC133 ECC 128-MB and PC133 CAS2 256-MB are down in price by $4, and PC133 CAS3 128-MB and PC133 ECC 512-MB fell by $2 and $3, respectively. The remaining SDRAM modules in this week's guide show static pricing, and we don't have a single price increase on SDRAM to report. Price fluctuations on DDR-SDRAM memory are similar to SDRAM this week. Starting with the positive news, which is actually a negative in terms of dollars, we have PC2100 512MB down $5 to $44 this week. PC3500 512-MB also dropped $4 to $102, and we find a couple of smaller $2 and $3 price savings as well. Anyone looking for PC2100 256-MB this week will pay $4 more over our last price guide, and we found that PC4000 256-MB jumped by $2 to $49. Not to be left out of the savings category, we do see smaller price drops hitting the DDR2 category this week as well. A dollar was shaved off the price of both DDR2-533 256-MB and DDR2-667 512-MB, and a bit nicer $3 savings can be found on DDR2-800 1-GB, now selling for $145. The only DDR2 module to increase in price is DDR2-667 1- GB, which is up $3 to $99. Those in the market for RDRAM will also be pleased to see a few price drops here as well. The price of PC800 standard and ECC 512-MB both went down by $3 to $105 and $96, respectively. The price of PC1066 256-MB 184pin fell $4 to $84, and we have a slight $1 drop on PC800 ECC 128-MB. The only RDRAM module up in price this week is PC800 256-MB, however it increased only a dollar. This update produced more price drops overall than we have seen in the past few month's worth of memory price guides. This week we see only single instances of $1 to $3 price increases, and of course, the lone $4 increase on the price of PC2100 256-MB. While most price changes are nominal, in fact only one module hit the $5 range, it does add up to a downward price trend. This is also a good opportunity for consumer to sniff out a prime shipping deal, and further lower your overall memory purchase price.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
