Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of December 4, 2006 - Page 2By Vangie Beal December 4, 2006SDRAMThis week we see continued stability in SDRAM prices. Only two modules reflect any price change this week, but we're pleased to say that both are price drops. The price of PC133 CAS2 512-MB is down $5 to $71 - this follows a $3 increase in our last report, so the price drop isn't quite as big when you look at the last month of price trends. Those consumers looking for PC133 CAS3 256-MB will save $2 this week. DDR and DDR2 memory show bigger overall changes this week, but this is due to some vendor changes, rather than any overall price fluctuation trend. Several online sources we have been using for specific memory no longer offer it - or we've had to switch our listing to a different type of memory from previously charted. One example is the $10 increase on PC3700 256-MB this week, which was a direct result of using a vendor that has a much better overall rating than the vendor noted in our last guide. Other modules to watch include PC4000 512-MB, which fell $20 to $97 and we also spotted a price drop of $3 on PC3200 512-MB, now selling for $49. PC3500 256-MB is getting harder to find, and as such, the vendor we have been using for the past several guides does not have it available presently. While our guide reflects an $18 increase on this type memory, this is yet another case of a new vendor selection. RDRAM has continued as expected this week, with very few price fluctuations in either direction. PC800 256-MB and PC800 512-MB went down in price by a dollar and the price of PC800 ECC 256-MB went up $2 to $69 this week. Other than these modules, no other RDRAM price changes were found. This week we do see some greater than $10 price changes, all hitting DDR modules, but for the most part this is due to supply issues and vendor changes in our guide. The $20 cut to PC4000 512MB is the major shift this week, but a $5 price drop to PC133 CAS2 512-MB looks appealing for those looking to upgrade, as does the $6 drop on DDR2-800-1GB. As we find ourselves in the midst of online holiday shopping deals, it is a good idea to also check prices at electronics and general computer shops as many larger retail merchants are currently offering free shipping and coupon code discounts.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
