Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of December 18, 2006 - Page 2By Vangie Beal December 18, 2006SDRAMAs we pass mid-December, the majority of the listed SDRAM modules remain unchanged in price since out last update. There were a couple of surprises this week, including a nice $6 price drop on PC133 CAS2 256-MB, which is now selling for $33. Countering that savings is a $5 increase on PC133 CAS2 512-MB. We also spotted a few offsetting $1 price changes in the chart as well. DDR-SDRAM price changes are a bit varied this week, but for the most part, DDR memory does offer consumers some good news. For example, we see PC3500 256-MB dropping $4 to $72, and a $7 cut to PC3700 256-MB brings the price down to $39. PC2700 512-MB fell by $2 this week and we do see a few more smaller $1 and $2 price drops. A few modules were on the rise this week, as PC4000 1-GB is up $7 to $170, while PC2100 256-MB gained $3 and now sits at $22. Overall DDR2 memory prices are up this week, including a trio of $5 price increases hitting DDR2-533 256-MB, DDR2-667 256-MB, and DDR2-800 1-GB. The price of DDR2-533 1-GB went up only by a dollar, but none of the modules we list actually went down in price. The rest remain unchanged for the week. As usual, RDRAM is the one category where price changes are small and few and far between. PC800 128-MB is down $2 to $30 and a dollar is shaved off the price of PC800 ECC 128-MB. The only RDRAM memory to rise in price is PC800 512-MB, and that only increased by $1. Most of the price changes that hit the $5 and over mark can be found in the DDR and DDR2 memory listings. Herein we have three DDR2 prices up in increments of $5, while a larger $7 increase was found on PC4000 1-GB - countered by a $7 price cut to PC3700 256-MB. SDRAM also looked promising with a $6 drop hitting PC133 CAS2 256-MB, but again this was countered by a $5 price increase on PC133 CAS2 512-MB. Since we find ourselves in the midst of online holiday shopping deals, it is a good idea to also check prices at electronics and general computer shops as many larger retail merchants are currently offering free shipping and coupon code discounts.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
