Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of January 1, 2007 - Page 2By Vangie Beal January 1, 2007SDRAMStarting the New Year off, SDRAM prices show a couple of big price fluctuations, but other than that, prices remain relatively unchanged from the end of December. The price of PC133 CAS3 256-MB is down $4 to $29 this week, and a vendor change brings the price of PC133 CAS2 512-MB up $10, from $86 to $96. The only other price change found here was a $1 increase on PC133 ECC 256-MB, which is now at $24. DDR price levels also remain pretty stable this week. We have a few $2 price drops on both PC2100 256-MB and PC3200 512-MB, while the price of PC2700 256-MB went up by $2. Those looking for PC3200-1GB will save $4, paying only $89 this week, and worth a mention is the $6 price drop on PC3700 256-MB which can now be had for $33. DDR2 prices are similar in nature - there is movement but for the most part, it's not large dollar amounts in either direction. We did post a $10 price savings on DDR2-800-1GB this week, which again was due to a change in vendor, and also a $3 price drop was found on DDR2-533-1GB - it now sits at an even $90. Single dollar price drops can be had on both DDR2-533 512-MB and DDR2-667 256-MB. New to our guide for this year is the addition of DDR2-1000 512-MB and DDR2-1000-1GB modules. As usual, overall RDRAM prices show very little activity. Starting January off, we only have two price changes on RDRAM. The price of PC800 ECC 128-MB is down $2 to $22, while we found PC1066 512-MB (184pin) at a price of $245, using a different vendor this week. This reflects a $10 increase over our last recorded price. A new year hasn't brought much in the way of savings to those looking to purchase system memory. While no category actually reflects any downward price trends, there are savings to be had, depending on the exact memory type you are looking for. There are a few good deals on DDR2 memory this week, including the $6 drop on PC3700 256-MB and a $4 savings on PC3200 1-GB. The price of DDR2-800 1GB at $135 looks better than our last guide, but we also found a bigger price tag came with PC133 CAS2 512-MB this week. As we find ourselves moving past the online holiday shopping deal season, it is a good idea to keep an eye on prices at electronics and general computer shops, as many larger retail merchants are currently offering free shipping and coupon code discounts. Additionally, your local retailers might be inclined to match online prices, saving you shipping, or also offer some after-Christmas deals as well.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
