As with the DDR listings, we are including a separate chart outlining the price of dual channel DDR2 memory kits. We are also concentrating mainly on DDR2-667, DDR2-800 and DDR2-1000 modules, along with top-end DDR2-1066 and higher models, the number of which is continuing to grow. Now that AMD has jumped on board, DDR2 has moved well beyond the niche market stage, and has now become the de facto memory standard for any new system purchase. There is currently a wide selection of matched pair DDR2 kits, including both 2x512-MB and 2x1-GB configurations, as well as 2x2-GB enthusiast-level kits that are starting to emerge, and specialized kits like the Corsair Dominator and OCZ FlexXLC.
As usual, the matched pair DDR2 chart is the Wild West of the system memory listings, and it supplies us with a dizzying amount of price increases and decreases. Matched pair DDR2 not only contained more individual price drops than in other charts, but these are also larger than in the other areas. For example, this update had nine double-digit price cuts, and included a $95 price drop on Corsair Dominator DDR2-1111 2x1-GB, along with a $45 decrease to Mushkin RedLine DDR2-1000 2x1-GB. There were a few price increases as well, three in total and all reaching double digits, with a $20 spike to Crucial Ballistix DDR2-1000 2x512-MB being the largest. These had very little effect on the overall chart movement, and it showed an aggregate drop of $253.
