Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of January 15, 2007 - Page 2By Vangie Beal January 15, 2007SDRAMEntering into mid-January, we see prices on SDRAM remaining quite stable. Similar to our last report, only a single listing changed in price this week, and it was even the same module. Last time we had PC133 CAS2 128-MB going up in price by $2, and this week the price has gone down $4 to $21. Over the past eight weeks, PC133 CAS2 128-MB is the only SDRAM memory we chart to change in price. As usual, DDR-SDRAM prices are quite mixed in terms of price increases and decreases. We see three DDR modules with a single dollar shaved of the retail price, plus a $3 savings on PC3200 1-GB. Those in the market for PC4000 512-MB will be pleased with the new $92 price tag, which is $7 less than last week. The price of PC3500 256-MB jumped by $4 - now at $76, while PC2100 256-MB increased $2 to $22. This week's trend for DDR2 prices is definitely moving in a downward direction, offering up a couple of good deals for consumers. Both DDR2-533 1-GB and DDR2-1000 512-MB offer consumers a $3 savings, while the price on DDR2-667 1-GB and DDR2-800 512-MB is down by $2 this week. The price tag on DDR2-533 256-MB dropped $4 to $22, and we don't have a single price increase on DDR2 memory to report this week. RDRAM is another category that shows larger price fluctuations, but fewer of them. Unfortunately, we see prices moving in an upward direction, and in bigger jumps than we normally see. While the price of PC800 512-MB is only up by $1, the new price of PC1066 256-MB (184pin) is $98, or a $9 increase over our last guide. PC1066 512-MB (184pin) was spotted at the price of $257, which is a total of $12 higher than in our previous guide. Other than these three increases, no other RDRAM module we chart changed in price this week. Overall prices on memory like RDRAM and DDR are similar to our December and January reports, but the price increases on RDRAM - especially for PC1066 modules - are higher than we would normally expect. SDRAM prices offer some savings, or increases, depending on the exact module you are looking for, but here the small price fluctuations won't be breaking any wallets. The best deals this week come by way of price drops on a few DDR2 modules, which range from $1 to $7 savings. When looking to buy memory online, it is also a good idea to check vendor Web sites and see if you can nab a shipping deal, which can add up to a greater dollar savings on your final purchase price.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
