Memory Pricing Guide |
High-End Memory Prices - Week of January 22, 2007 - Page 5By SharkyExtreme.com Staff January 22, 2007As with the DDR listings, we are including a separate chart outlining the price of dual channel DDR2 memory kits. We are also concentrating mainly on DDR2-667, DDR2-800 and DDR2-1000 modules, along with top-end DDR2-1066 and higher models, the number of which is continuing to grow. Now that AMD has jumped on board, DDR2 has moved well beyond the niche market stage, and has now become the de facto memory standard for any new system purchase. There is currently a wide selection of matched pair DDR2 kits, including both 2x512-MB and 2x1-GB configurations, as well as 2x2-GB enthusiast-level kits that are starting to emerge, and specialized kits like the Corsair Dominator and OCZ FlexXLC. As usual, the matched pair DDR2 chart is the Wild West of the system memory listings, and it supplies us with a dizzying amount of price increases and decreases. Matched pair DDR2 couldn't equal the $250+ overall drop of the Registered DDR chart, but it did sneak into second place with an aggregate chart decrease of $162. There was a total of five double-digit price cuts, but a few of the larger ones contributed the most, including Geil DDR2-667 Ultra 2x2-GB (-$95), OCZ DDR2-1100 Gold 2x1-GB (-$46), and Kingston HyperX DDR2-1000 2x1-GB (-$40). Unfortunately, there was also some activity on the other side of the chart, as the price of Crucial Ballistix TR DDR2-1000 2x1-GB jumped by $50, while Crucial Ballistix DDR2-1000 2x1-GB and Geil DDR2-800 Ultra 2x512-MB received price increases of $30 and $29, respectively.
