Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of January 29, 2007 - Page 2By Vangie Beal January 29, 2007Closing off the month of January, pricing trends on SDRAM remains the same. We have very little price fluctuations in this category of memory, and just like throughout 2007, there is very little in the way of price movement on SDRAM. This week it is two $1 price changes, as PC133 ECC 512-MB moved down a buck to $42 and PC133 CAS2 128-MB received a $1 price increase. DDR-SDRAM is quite an active category this week, and depending on the actual module you are shopping for, it could offer up a few dollars worth of savings for consumers. Starting with the price increases, we some good news in the form of only two measly $1 jumps. In terms of price drops this week, we have a few good deals to report. While three different DDR memory prices have dropped in price by $2 to $3, we do see several hitting that more attractive '$5 or more' mark. With a vendor change this week, the price of PC3500 512-MB is down from over $100 to $78, and there is a $5 savings on PC4000 256-MB - setting the price to an even $40. We also switched vendors for PC4000 1-GB and the price is down $15 to $142. This memory started out on the January 1st with a price tag of $170, offering a total savings of $28 over the whole month. While DDR2 price activity is not as high in terms of dollar amounts when compared to DDR modules, we do see more price decreases than increases this week. The price of several modules have dropped by a single dollar, while DDR2-533 256MB and DDR2-667 512-MB offer consumers savings of $3 and $4, respectively. The price of DDR2-1000 512-MB is also down $6 to $116 this week, and since the beginning of January, this memory has dropped a total of $9. RDRAM prices, as usual, represent a mixed bag of price changes. PC1066, which is being stocked by fewer vendors online, seems to consistently go up in price with each report. This week however, we switched out the vendor on PC1066 512-MB (184pin) and this change reflects an $8 savings over our last guide. Other RDRAM price drops include $2 in savings on both PC800 512-MB and PC800 ECC 512-MB. As we move out of January 2007, our Memory Price Guide offers consumers a few good deals, but mostly in the DDR category. Those who have been keeping an eye on PC3500 512-MB, will certainly be pleased with the new $40 price tag. Other good deals include an $8 savings on PC800 ECC 512-MB, which, for interest's sake is now selling for $4 less than it did one year ago in January 2006. As we head into February, it's a good practice to check with local franchise shops to see if they are willing to come close to, or match, Internet prices, giving you the best deal as shipping costs won't need to be factored in.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
