Memory Pricing Guide |
High-End Memory Prices - Week of February 19, 2007 - Page 5By SharkyExtreme.com Staff February 19, 2007As with the DDR listings, we are including a separate chart outlining the price of dual channel DDR2 memory kits. We are also concentrating mainly on DDR2-667, DDR2-800 and DDR2-1000 modules, along with top-end DDR2-1066 and higher models, the number of which is continuing to grow. Now that AMD has jumped on board, DDR2 has moved well beyond the niche market stage, and has now become the de facto memory standard for any new system purchase. There is currently a wide selection of matched pair DDR2 kits, including both 2x512-MB and 2x1-GB configurations, as well as 2x2-GB enthusiast-level kits that are starting to emerge, and specialized kits like the Corsair Dominator and OCZ FlexXLC. As usual, the matched pair DDR2 chart is the Wild West of the system memory listings, and it supplies us with a dizzying amount of price increases and decreases. We definitely saved the best for last, and the matched pair DDR2 was by far the most active of the bunch - although the aggregate chart drop of $289 was well off the insane $800+ decrease we posted last time out. The individual price cuts are all over the matched pair DDR2 chart, including a whopping fifteen that hit double digits. The drops that really stood out include an $80 cut to the price of Crucial Ballistix DDR2-1000 2x512-MB, a $65 drop to Geil DDR2-667 Ultra 2x2-GB, and Corsair Dominator DDR2-1111 2x1-GB falling by $49. The reason the chart didn't show a greater overall drop is a $144 spike to the price of Corsair Dominator DDR2-1250 2x1-GB, which certainly put a damper on things.
