Memory Pricing Guide |
High-End Memory Prices - Week of March 5, 2007 - Page 5By SharkyExtreme.com Staff March 5, 2007As with the DDR listings, we are including a separate chart outlining the price of dual channel DDR2 memory kits. We are also concentrating mainly on DDR2-667, DDR2-800 and DDR2-1000 modules, along with top-end DDR2-1066 and higher models, the number of which is continuing to grow. Now that AMD has jumped on board, DDR2 has moved well beyond the niche market stage, and has now become the de facto memory standard for any new system purchase. There is currently a wide selection of matched pair DDR2 kits, including both 2x512-MB and 2x1-GB configurations, as well as 2x2-GB enthusiast-level kits that are starting to emerge, and specialized kits like the Corsair Dominator and OCZ FlexXLC. As usual, the matched pair DDR2 chart is the Wild West of the system memory listings, and it supplies us with a dizzying amount of price increases and decreases. The matched pair DDR2 chart was by far the most active of the bunch and its huge $382 aggregate chart drop even outpaced the $289 decrease we posted last time out. There was a wide range of price drops that encompassed well over half the chart, including twelve that reached double digits. OCZ DDR2-900 Platinum 2x1-GB (-$70), OCZ DDR2-1100 Gold 2x1-GB (-$54), OCZ DDR2-1000 Titanium 2x1-GB (-$46), and OCZ DDR2-1000 Platinum 2x1-GB (-$45) were the most active dual-channel kits this week. But just as the price of OCZ DDR2 was falling, there was a single noticeable increase, as Crucial raised the price of Crucial Ballistix DDR2-667 2x1-GB by $15.
