Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of March 12, 2007 - Page 2By Vangie Beal March 12, 2007The last time out, we saw a few price changes scattered through the SDRAM category, but this week the majority of PC133 memory prices remain unchanged, with the lone exception being a $1 drop on the price of PC133 ECC 256-MB. DDR SDRAM shows several price changes this week, however none of these represent any large dollar amounts. We have both PC2100 512-MB and PC4000 512-MB dropping in price by $2, while PC2700 512-MB and PC3200 512-MB are each down in by $1. The biggest change is a $4 drop on PC4000 1-GB - now selling for $132. This week's DDR2 price list shows mostly price increases. The price on DDR2-667 512-MB went up $3 to $43 and DDR2-667 1-GB jumped $5 to $99 this week. Those in the market for DDR2-1000 512-MB will be pleased to see a $5 price drop, bringing it down to $105. The prices on some RDRAM modules are really jumping this week. We charted $20 increases to both PC800 512-MB and PC800 ECC 512-MB, bringing the retail price tag up to $115 for each. This price jump reflects a lack of vendors carrying the memory, and this week both vendor listings have changed. The only good news to be found on RDRAM this week was a $4 drop on the price of PC800 ECC 256-MB, which is now selling for $74. With the exception of the upward movement on PC800 512-MB and PC800 ECC 512-MB RDRAM modules, we don't see a whole lot of large price jumps or drops this week. Specific modules such as PC800 ECC 256-MB, PC4000 1-GB, and DDR2-1000 512-MB reflect savings of $4 to $5 this week, however countering these savings we do have several modules up in prices, again ranging from $3 to $5. When looking to buy memory online, it is a good idea to check vendor Web sites and see if you can nab a shipping deal, which can add up to a greater dollar savings on your final purchase price.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
