Memory Pricing Guide |
High-End Memory Prices - Week of March 19, 2007 - Page 5By SharkyExtreme.com Staff March 19, 2007As with the DDR listings, we are including a separate chart outlining the price of dual channel DDR2 memory kits. We are also concentrating mainly on DDR2-667, DDR2-800 and DDR2-1000 modules, along with top-end DDR2-1066 and higher models, the number of which is continuing to grow. Now that AMD has jumped on board, DDR2 has moved well beyond the niche market stage, and has now become the de facto memory standard for any new system purchase. There is currently a wide selection of matched pair DDR2 kits, including both 2x512-MB and 2x1-GB configurations, as well as 2x2-GB enthusiast-level kits that are starting to emerge, and specialized kits like the Corsair Dominator and OCZ FlexXLC. As usual, the dual channel DDR2 chart is the Wild West of the system memory listings, and it supplies us with a dizzying amount of price increases and decreases. The matched pair DDR2 listings were again the most active of the bunch and posted a huge $450 aggregate chart drop - which even outpaced the $382 and $289 decreases we had in the previous two updates. OCZ is definitely the brand of the day for bargain hunters, and the top price drops included OCZ DDR2-1000 Gold 2x1-GB (-$79), OCZ FlexXLC DDR2-1150 2x1-GB (-$69), OCZ DDR2-1000 Platinum 2x1-GB (-$54), and OCZ DDR2-900 Platinum 2x1-GB (-$53). There were also thirteen double-digit price cuts, and the largest price increase was a measly $6 spike to Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800 C4 2x1-GB.
