Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of March 26, 2007 - Page 2By Vangie Beal March 26, 2007Keeping in line with last week's SDRAM chart, where we had only a single price change, this week's memory prices remain the same - without even a single price fluctuation to report. While DDR modules often reflect greater price fluctuations than other categories, this week we're seeing a few higher dollar price drops. A couple of modules, PC2100 512-MB and PC3200 256-MB, have gone down in price by only a dollar, but others like PC4000 512-MB dropped $13 to $72. Another noteworthy price drop on DDR memory hits PC4000 1-GB, which fell by $7 and currently sits with a $125 price tag. DDR2 memory is still slow to offer up any savings. Those consumers shopping around for DDR2-667 512-MB or DDR2-667 1-GB this week will save $2 and $4, respectively. The price of DDR2-1000 1-GB fell by $3 to $143, and in terms of price increases, the only DDR memory on the rise this week is DDR2-800 1-GB, up $2 to $135, and DDR2-533 512-MB, rising $1 to $44. Acting more like SDRAM than DDR in terms of price activity, RDRAM memory prices remain unchanged with the exception being a $3 drop on PC800 256-MB, which is now selling at a lower price of $62 this week. Overall, it looks like March's memory prices are rolling out a like a lamb. We spotted only two price drops that went over the $5 mark, with both being on DDR-SDRAM memory. While PC4000 512-MB dropped in price down to $72, the overall change for a thirty day period (as tracked on February 26th) represents a total of $20 in savings - a good deal for anyone who has been looking at this purchase and is finally deciding to buy. Unfortunately, SDRAM and RDRAM prices show very little movement this week. While it may not be an incentive to purchase, no change is certainly better than the alternative of higher prices. As we head into April, it's a good practice to check with local franchise shops to see if they are willing to come close or price match Internet prices, giving you the best deal - as shipping costs won't need to be factored in.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
