Memory Pricing Guide |
High-End Memory Prices - Week of April 2, 2007 - Page 5By SharkyExtreme.com Staff April 2, 2007As with the DDR listings, we are including a separate chart outlining the price of dual channel DDR2 memory kits. We are also concentrating mainly on DDR2-667, DDR2-800 and DDR2-1000 modules, along with top-end DDR2-1066 and higher models, the number of which is continuing to grow. Now that AMD has jumped on board, DDR2 has moved well beyond the niche market stage, and has now become the de facto memory standard for any new system purchase. There is currently a wide selection of matched pair DDR2 kits, including both 2x512-MB and 2x1-GB configurations, as well as 2x2-GB enthusiast-level kits that are starting to emerge, and specialized kits like the Corsair Dominator and OCZ FlexXLC. As usual, the dual channel DDR2 chart is the Wild West of the system memory listings, and it supplies us with a dizzying amount of price increases and decreases. Last time out, we posted a huge $450 aggregate chart - following on the heels of $382 and $289 decreases from the two prior updates. This week's result takes those totals out behind the shed for a good beating, and checks in with a huge $694 aggregate drop. There was an amazing twenty-one individual price cuts that reached double digits, including four that hit or surpassed the $70 mark. There was only a single price increase of note, but that did entail an $80 spike to the price of Geil DDR2-800 Ultra 2x2-GB.
