As with the DDR listings, we are including a separate chart outlining the price of dual channel DDR2 memory kits. We are also concentrating mainly on DDR2-667, DDR2-800 and DDR2-1000 modules, along with top-end DDR2-1066 and higher models, the number of which is continuing to grow. Now that AMD has jumped on board, DDR2 has moved well beyond the niche market stage, and has now become the de facto memory standard for any new system purchase. There is currently a wide selection of matched pair DDR2 kits, including both 2x512-MB and 2x1-GB configurations, as well as 2x2-GB enthusiast-level kits that are starting to emerge, and specialized kits like the Corsair Dominator and OCZ FlexXLC.
As usual, the dual channel DDR2 chart is the Wild West of the system memory listings, and it supplies us with a dizzying amount of price increases and decreases. We thought things were good with previous chart decreases of $450, $382 and $289, but the $694 aggregate chart decrease in our last edition was a real wild ride. Amazingly, we almost matched that number again this week, and the dual channel DDR2 chart registered a total shift of -$649. The individual price cuts were pretty amazing as well, with twenty listing reaching double digits, and Geil DDR2-667 Ultra 2x2-GB (-$75), Kingston HyperX DDR2-800 2x1-GB (-$54), Kingston HyperX DDR2-900 2x1-GB (-$53), and Crucial Ballistix DDR2-1000 2x1-GB (-$50) offering the largest drops. The news is also quite good in terms of price increases, as only two modules jumped by $10 or more, and the largest was only $18.
