Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of April 23, 2007 - Page 2By Vangie Beal April 23, 2007This week, we see the SDRAM modules holding steady at their current prices. While several modules increased in price last week (PC133 CAS3 512-MB jumped by $7 for example), the only price change we have this week is a slim $1 increase on the price of PC133 CAS3 128-MB. In our last Memory Price Guide, we noted more DDR price drops than usual, but this week we're literally seeing prices up and down all over the chart. While a few modules show small $1 price variations, we have three dropping in price by $2 this week: PC2700 256-MB, PC2700 512-MB, and PC4000 512-MB. Unfortunately, a $2 savings is the largest of the price drops on DDR modules this week, and most of the DDR price changes are increases. PC3700 256-MB is up $6 to $39 and we see a $10 increase on PC3500 512-MB, which is now selling for $85. DDR2 prices are also a mixed bag of goodies this week. Price increases fall in the $1 and $2 range while price breaks are a welcoming change for consumers. The retail cost of DDR2-667 512-MB is down $5 this week to $34 and DDR2-1000 512-MB offers up a $96 price tag, which is a savings of $6 over our last report. This week's trend on RDRAM is definitely on a downward slope. For those consumers looking to upgrade there are several deals to be had, most notably a $13 savings on PC1066 256-MB (184pin), which comes by way of a vendor change in our listing. PC800 ECC 512-MB is also down $9 to $106 and consumers will save $2 and $3 on PC1066 512-MB (184pin) and PC800 512-MB, respectively. This week we do not have any price increases to report on RDRAM. Overall, we have several price drops that are perhaps big enough to be an encouragement to buy, especially for those consumers who have been playing the wait-and-see game. With RDRAM, the price difference on PC1066 256-MB (184pin) reflects a $13 savings, while both DDR2-667 512-MB and DDR2-1000 512-MB are a good deal with their respective $5 and $6 price drops. Unfortunately for those consumers in the market for DDR memory this week, several modules have increased in price, like the $10 jump on PC3500 512-MB. As we head into the last week of April, it is always good practice to check with your local franchise shops to see if they are willing to come close or price match Internet prices. This gives you, the consumers, the best deal overall as shipping costs won't need to be factored in to your total purchase price.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
