Memory Pricing Guide |
High-End Memory Prices - Week of April 30, 2007 - Page 5By SharkyExtreme.com Staff May 1, 2007As with the DDR listings, we are including a separate chart outlining the price of dual channel DDR2 memory kits. We are also concentrating mainly on DDR2-667, DDR2-800 and DDR2-1000 modules, along with top-end DDR2-1066 and higher models, the number of which is continuing to grow. Now that AMD has jumped on board, DDR2 has moved well beyond the niche market stage, and has now become the de facto memory standard for any new system purchase. There is currently a wide selection of matched pair DDR2 kits, including both 2x512-MB and 2x1-GB configurations, as well as 2x2-GB enthusiast-level kits that are starting to emerge, and specialized kits like the Corsair Dominator and OCZ FlexXLC. As usual, the dual channel DDR2 chart is the Wild West of the system memory listings, but we've entered uncharted territory this week. The price drops are simply unprecedented, especially the trio of triple-digit cuts - Geil DDR2-800 Ultra 2x2-GB (-$200), Kingston HyperX DDR2-1066 2x1-GB (-$163) and Kingston HyperX DDR2-1000 2x1-GB (-$155). That is only part of the story, and the chart contains twenty-eight individual price drops that hit double-digits - amazing considering there are only forty-two total entries. Only a single matched pair entry increased by more than $9, and the aggregate chart drop was an astounding $1,256 for the week. Wow!
