Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of May 7, 2007 - Page 2By Vangie Beal May 7, 2007This week's SDRAM prices are a bit more varied, with three being the magic number. Up in price by $3 this week we have both PC133 CAS3 128-MB and PC133 CAS2 128-MB. The price of PC133 ECC 512-MB also changed by $3, but this was a price drop bringing it down to $42. Other SDRAM price changes this week include a single dollar increase on PC133 ECC 256-MB. Our DDR-SDRAM category is certainly full of activity this week, with most price changes favoring the consumer. Falling in price by $2, we have a set of 512-MB modules: PC2100 512-MB, PC2700 512-MB, and PC3200 512-MB. The price of PC4200 512-MB dropped $3 to $77. Those looking to purchase PC3200 1-GB will pay $77, a decrease of $8, but unfortunately, PC3700 512MB jumped in price by $6 to $84. We also have smaller $1 drops on several modules including PC2100 256MB, PC3200 256MB, and PC4200 256MB. DDR2 prices have also gone down, but even though there are many individual price drops, the savings for consumers only range from $1 to $4 this week. The larger $4 drops hit the 512-MB modules, including DDR2-533 512-MB, at $40 and DDR2-800 512-MB, now sitting at a lower price of $96. 1-GB modules like DDR2-533 1-GB and DDR2-667 1-GB are down by $3 each, while $2 in savings can be had on both DDR2-533 256-MB and DDR2-667 256-MB. RDRAM is a bit of a mixed blessing this week, as both our highest and lowest price changes were in this category. The big price decrease of the week is a $10 drop on PC1066 256-MB (184pin), now selling at $106, while PC800 ECC 512-MB is down by a single dollar. Countering the savings here however, the price of PC800 ECC 256-MB was charted at $85, which is an $11 increase over our last reported price. Another change worth note is a $2 savings on PC800 256-MB, which is selling for $60 online. Overall memory prices are on a decline this week, with some excellent savings and deals to be had on DDR and DDR2 memory. PC3200 1-GB, down $8 to $77, is an attractive buy, as is the multiple $4 price drops we found on DDR2 this week. Of course throwing a wrench in the savings wheel, we did see a couple of big increases like the $11 spike that hit PC800 ECC 256-MB and $6 jump to the price of PC3700 512-MB. Even with these two price increases, this week's Memory price Guide still offers more savings than we have seen so far in 2007. When looking to buy memory online, it is always a good idea to always check a vendor Web sites and see if you can nab a shipping deal, or potentially save money by placing a multiple item order, which a good way to save if you have friends or co-workers also looking to upgrade their system memory.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
