Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of May 21, 2007 - Page 2By Vangie Beal May 22, 2007While we had a bit of activity on SDRAM prices last week, this time out is pretty slow. In fact the only price change we can report is a single $1 increase on the price of PC133 CAS3 256-MB, which is now selling for $34. For the second memory price guide in a row, we see the most activity on DDR and DDR2 memory. Starting with DDR-SDRAM, exactly half the modules we list have seen their price either increase or decrease by $1. Other price fluctuations include a $2 drop on PC3200 1-GB and a $7 cut to the price of PC4200 512-MB, which is now listed at $70. DDR2 memory also shows multiple changes, and starting with the savings we see DDR2-667-1GB falling by $3 and DDR2-1000 51-2MB down in price to $81, which is a $5 drop. Both DDR2-533 1-GB and DDR2-800 1-GB dropped by $2 and while we see two DDR2 modules rising by a dollar this week, the only other price increase is on DDR2-667 256-MB, which is up $7 to $73. Only two of our listed modules remain unchanged in price this week, those being DDR2-667 512-MB and DDR2-800 512-MB. As usual, the RDRAM savings are dependant on which module you are shopping for. Our guide offers a $6 savings on PC800 512-MB, dropping it to $106, and a $5 drop on PC800 ECC 256-MB - bringing the price down to $80. Switching out the online vendor for PC1066 512-MB (184pin) drops the price down $14 to $244 this week, and lastly, those looking for PC800 256-MB will save $3. Price increases on RDRAM memory this week are limited to a $4 jump to PC1066 256-MB (184pin), which is now selling for $110. Overall, there are some deals to be had this week, especially in the DDR, DDR2 and RDRAM categories, like the $14 drop on PC1066 512-MB (184pin), the $7 cut to PC4200 512MB and the $5 savings on DDR2-1000 512-MB. While the only price jump we spotted on DDR2 was to DDR2-667 256-MB, it was a larger increase of $7. SDRAM was slow to move this week, making it the most stable of all the categories. Looking back over memory prices since the first week of May, we see three modules stand out with two consecutive price drops. In the last four weeks, PC3200 1-GB has dropped a total of $10, while PC4200 512-MB also shed $10 off its retail price during the same period. Those who waited to purchase DDR2-1000 512-MB would have saved a total of $15 by not purchasing in the beginning of May. To save even more money when looking to buy memory online, it is a good idea to check vendor Web sites and see if you can nab a shipping deal, which can add up to a greater dollar savings on your final purchase price.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
