Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of June 4, 2007 - Page 2By SharkyExtreme.com Staff June 5, 2007This week's SDRAM prices remain relatively unchanged. Our last report noted a single $1 increase on the price of PC133 CAS3 256-MB and this week we see a single $2 increase on the same module, which is now selling at $36. Since the first week of May, PC133 CAS3 256-MB has slowly gone up from $29, to its current $36 price tag. Last time we looked at DDR-SDRAM, it showed the most price changes per category in our guide, but this week it's gone back to a stable trend. A single dollar was shaved off the price of three modules: PC2100 512-MB, PC2700 512-MB and PC3200 512-MB. DDR price increases for the week include a $2 jump to PC3200 1-GB and a $6 price spike on PC4000 512-MB, which is now selling for $76. DDR2 memory still offers varied pricing, and many of the changes are due to online vendor competition. We have DDR2-533 512-MB, DDR2-667 512-MB, and DDR2-667 1-GB each down in price by $2 this week. A $7 savings can be had on DDR2-667 256MB, now at $66, and DDR2-1000 1-GB dropped $3 to sit at $146 for the week. The biggest difference on DDR2 memory is a price jump, with DDR2-1000 512-MB selling for $99, an $18 increase. While we rarely have much in the way of price changes on RDRAM, this week we're pleased to see PC800 128-MB selling for only $21, which represents a $7 price drop. The only other change on RDRAM this week is a one dollar increase on the price of PC800 ECC 512-MB. Overall, there isn't a whole lot of price activity on system memory as we head into June 2007. Any potential savings really comes down to the exact type of memory you are looking for, as opposed to industry-wide price changes based on memory type or speed. Those looking for DDR2-667 256-MB can score a better deal this week with the $7 price drop, and there are several other DDR2 modules which are down slightly in price as well. The exception on DDR2 of course, is the larger $18 increase on DDR2-1000 512-MB. Also, don't forget to keep an eye on your overall shipping costs and watch for summer deals, as this is a smart way to lower the overall price you end up paying for your system memory.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
