High-End Memory Prices - Week of June 11, 2007 - Page 3By SharkyExtreme.com Staff June 11, 2007The standard desktop market for registered DDR begins and ends with the Athlon 64 FX-based platforms, but there are a wide range of high-end workstation and small business servers that utilize this same memory format. Since the desktop market utilizes 400 MHz PC3200 Registered DDR, that is where we concentrate our price listings, and even though Socket 940 is just a fond memory, these continue to be an upgrade option for many desktop users. Due to the lower number of available registered DDR modules, we've gone a bit outside the Top 5 manufacturers, and also listed both the single module and matched pair PC3200 DDR prices. We have also started to slowly add in Registered DDR2 listings, and we're sticking the DDR2-667 to DDR2-800 range in 1GB, 2x1GB and 2x2GB memory configurations. Due to the shrinking market for Registered DDR, we are starting to supplement these with some module listings for Registered DDR2. This will be a slow process, and we hope the end result is an even mix of both workstation/server-based memory. Over the past few weeks, the price of Registered DDR has been dropping off the table, even threatening to outpace DDR2 on some occasions. This week isn't quite so wild, and while the overall chart decrease of $81 is still healthy, it's far removed from the consistent triple-digit drops we've seen in the past. The individual cuts run deep, and include Ultra PC3200 Registered 1-GB (-$35), PQI Power PC3200 Registered 1-GB (-$30) and Crucial PC3200 Registered 2x1-GB (-$30). Only a single listing, Crucial PC3200 Registered 2x2-GB (+$24), increased at all this week.
