As with the DDR listings, we are including a separate chart outlining the price of dual channel DDR2 memory kits. We are also concentrating mainly on DDR2-667, DDR2-800, DDR2-1000 and DDR2-1066 modules, along with top-end DDR2-1100/1150/1200/1250 and higher models, the number of which is continuing to grow. Now that AMD has jumped on board, DDR2 has moved well beyond the niche market stage, and has now become the de facto memory standard for any new system purchase. There is currently a wide selection of matched pair DDR2 kits, including both 2x512-MB and 2x1-GB configurations, as well as 2x2-GB enthusiast-level kits that are starting to emerge, and specialized kits like the Corsair Dominator and OCZ FlexXLC.
It was a completely different story in the dual channel DDR2 chart, which is back to its old tricks, showing a wild array of price cuts. The aggregate chart drop totaled $485 this week, coming extremely close to the $489 overall decrease we posted in our last guide. There were a couple of triple-digit cuts, as Mushkin XP2 DDR2-1150 2x1-GB and Corsair Dominator DDR2-800 2x1-GB fell by $140 and $100, respectively. Overall, fifteen of the price drops hit double digits, including eight of $20 or more, while only a single module increased by more than $8. These are some very interesting trends, and something we haven't seen before, as both of the dual channel markets are heading down, while their single-module counterparts show mostly consistent pricing.
