Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of June 18, 2007 - Page 2By Vangie Beal June 18, 2007SDRAM prices seem to have bottomed out several weeks ago, but this week we managed to find yet another price drop, as PC133 ECC 512-MB is down $4 to $38. The good news is that price increases were scarce as well, and the only change here was a single $1 jump on the price of PC133 CAS2 128-MB. The prices on DDR-SDRAM and DDR2 usually represent the one section of our guide that shows the most activity, and this week is certainly no exception. Starting with DDR memory, we have a nice $5 drop on the price of PC4000 1-GB, now selling for $108. Other modules down in price by $2 and $3 respectively, include PC4200 256-MB and PC4200 512-MB, and there are $1 savings on several modules. DDR price increases are also minimal this week, and in fact, we have only three modules up in price by a single dollar. DDR2 prices are a bit of a mixed bag of goodies this week, but overall the price increases amount to a larger dollar value than the price drops. Both DDR2-800 1-GB and DDR2-1000 512-MB are up in price by $5, followed by a smaller $2 increase on DDR2-1000 1-GB. The magic numbers for price decreases seem to be $1 and $2 this week, and we have DDR2-533 256-MB, DDR2-533 512-MB, DDR2-533 1-GB, and DDR2-667 256-MB sitting in this range. RDRAM prices are also quite stable this week. The only price change here is a $4 drop on PC800 256-MB, which now selling for $53. All other RDRAM modules we list remain unchanged in price since our last Memory Price Guide update. - Stability is the name of the game this week, and while consumers will find mostly small price drops on system memory, there is not much risk if you've held off on buying this week. The prices on RDRAM modules have settled down at least, and we again see DDR memory being the one to watch for larger and more frequent price fluctuations. As we head into the summer, it's a good practice to check with local franchise shops to see if they are willing to come close or price match Internet prices, as shipping costs won't need to be factored in.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
