Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of July 2, 2007 - Page 2By Vangie Beal July 3, 2007Unlike previous weeks where SDRAM prices remained unchanged in price, we do see several price shifts this week, and those will actually leave a few dollars in the consumer's wallet. We have PC133 ECC 256-MB and PC133 CAS3 512-MB down by $1 and $2, respectively, and the price of PC133 ECC 512-MB fell $3 to $35. Those in the market for PC133 CAS3 128-MB will catch a $4 break this week by paying only $20. All other SDRAM modules remain unchanged in price, and we have no price increases to report this week on SDRAM. DDR-SDRAM also offers some price drops this week. While some PC3700 modules are getting a bit harder to find online in price comparison engines, we did find a new vendor who is offering PC3700 512-MB for $80, which is a $5 savings. Other changes here include a $2 price drop on PC4000 1-GB and a $3 increase on PC4000 512-MB, now selling at a price of $80. PC2700 and PC3200 also reflect several smaller $1 and $2 decreases this week. DDR2 prices this week offer little in the way of savings, and in fact, the largest price changes here this week are increases. The price of DDR2-800 512-MB is up $6 to $104, and DDR2-800 1-GB is now selling for $141, a $3 increase over our last guide price. Also on the rise this week is DDR2-533 1-GB, up by $3, and DDR2-1000 512-MB, which increased by $2. The only price cut is a single dollar drop on DDR2-533 512-MB. This week's RDRAM price levels prove to be the most stable of the bunch. Here we see that prices remain unchanged with the exception of a single $4 price drop on PC800 256-MB modules. Last week we saw a $4 drop on the this same memory, so for those who waited this two-week period to buy, you may have lucked in with a combined price drop of $8 on PC800 256-MB. Overall memory pricing trends have made finding a good deal rather difficult. Some may want to take advantage of overall lower SDRAM prices and the $5 shaved off the price of PC3700 512-MB might also make the purchase worth consideration. There are no overriding trends, and savings depends on the exact memory type and speed. Your exact upgrades will determine if you can save money by purchasing memory this week. To save even more cash when looking to buy memory online, it is a good idea to check vendor Web sites and see if you can nab a shipping deal, which can add up to a noticeable dollar savings on your final purchase price.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
