Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of July 30, 2007 - Page 2By Vangie Beal July 31, 2007Throughout July, we have seen SDRAM prices remain pretty much unchanged, with each Memory Price Guide showing only a few slight price fluctuations. Ending the month, we have SDRAM prices unchanged in price since our last report. Taking into account all price changes since the beginning of July however, we see that PC133 CAS3 512-MB has dropped by a total of $7 over this period. DDR-SDRAM prices offer very little savings for consumers, but of course, this also means if you desperately need an upgrade or replacement you also won't have to spend a fortune to get it this week. Several modules offer a slim $1 savings, while PC2700 512-MB and PC3200 512-MB are both down in price by $2. The largest price drop charted this week was a $3 decrease on the price of PC4200 512-MB, which is now selling for $57. Thankfully, we have only a single dollar price increase to report, and that is on PC4000 512-MB. DDR2 prices show the most price activity this week. The lowest dollar amount for price drops is $2 on DDR2-533 1-GB, and several modules including DDR2-533 256-MB, DDR2-667 512-MB, and DDR2-1000 512-MB all fell by $3. DDR2-667 256-MB is selling for $50, a nice $5 price drop, and those looking for DDR2-800 512-MB will pay only $83 this week, which reflects a $7 price drop on the memory. With the multitude of price drops, however, are increases as well. DDR2-800 1-GB is up in price by $3 to $142 and, we see the price of DDR2-1000 1-GB rising $6 to $149 this week. Following the pattern set by SDRAM, we see only the smallest of changes on RDRAM prices for the last week of July. While PC1066 modules are often shifting in price from one week to the next, this time the prices remain unchanged. Here we have only a single $1 increase on PC800 256-MB, now at $53. Those looking to find good summer deals might be in luck if DDR2 memory is on your shopping list. This category shows several promising price drops, which can help consumers building new systems or upgrading old ones, save a few dollars. DDR2 memory also shows the most promising downward trend for the month of July 2007. At the beginning of the month the price of DDR2-667 256-MB started out at $65, dropping down to $50 for the week of July 30, and showed an overall decrease in price of $15 for the month. DDR2-800 512-MB also dropped in price by $15 in July and the price of DDR2-667 1-GB dropped by $12 for the month. The only other significant price drop of July 2007 was on PC4200 512-MB, which started out at $67 and fell $10 to $57. When shopping for memory online, don't forget to keep an eye on your overall shipping costs and watch for free shipping deals, as this is a smart way to lower the overall price you end up paying for your system memory. Consumers who have yet to enroll in the Google Checkout program may also find discounts of up to $10 at some online vendors when you sign up to use the Google Checkout service.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
