Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of August 13, 2007 - Page 2By Vangie Beal August 14, 2007Throughout the month of July, we noted that SDRAM prices remain mostly unchanged with each update, and that trend continues into August 2007. PC133 ECC 128-MB dropped below the $10 mark last month and remains at $8 from online vendor Star Micro. In terms of price changes this week, we have only a single one to report and that is a small $1 increase on PC133 CAS2 128-MB - now selling for $26. DDR and DDR2 memory is often full of price fluctuations and again this week these are definitely the most active of all memory categories. Starting with DDR-SDRAM, we have mainly smaller price differences such as a $1 savings on both PC2100 256-MB and PC2700 512-MB. At its new price of $53, those in the market for PC4200 512-MB, will save $4. Other price drops include a $2 savings on PC3200 512-MB, while the price of PC3200 1-GB fell $3 to $68 as well. This week we do not have a single price increase to report on DDR memory. DDR2 memory is bit more varied than DDR, and with DR2-667 256-MB up $8 to $58, there is a larger price increase as well. The price of DDR2-533 256-MB is up a dollar, while several DDR2 modules are down in price slightly this week. DDR2-533 512-MB, DDR2-800 512-MB and DDR2-1000 512-MB all fell by $1, followed by a $2 savings on the price of DDR2-667 1-GB. While July brought mostly small price fluctuations on RDRAM modules, we're starting August out with several vendor changes that have resulted in some nice overall savings. PC800 512-MB is down $9 to $97 and the price of PC800 ECC 512-MB was $8 cheaper this week at $98. Other price decreases include a $4 drop on PC800 256-MB, which is now selling for $49. This week our Memory price Guide does not reflect a single RDRAM price increase, which is always good news for consumers. If a good summer deal is what you have been waiting for, then we're still looking and nothing is to be found yet. While we do have several lower prices on RDRAM this week, mainly PC800 512-MB and PC800 ECC 512-MB, its important to remember that we don't factor in shipping costs on top of memory prices as this is a dollar value that will change depending on your location. Still, a few modules this week are worth looking at, like PC4200 512-MB and PC800 256-MB, which are both down by $4 this week. However, overall savings on memory this week really depends on the exact type and speed you are looking for.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
