Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of August 27, 2007 - Page 2By Vangie Beal August 28, 2007This week we again see very little price fluctuation on SDRAM prices. The changes we do have, however, are definitely worth a look if an upgrade is in your near future. While the price of PC133 ECC 128-MB dropped only by $1 this week, PC133 CAS3 512-MB fell $6 to $62. These are the only two SDRAM price changes in the chart this week. As usual, the prices on DDR and DDR2 memory tend to change more than other categories in our guide. This week, DDR modules offer consumers some decent savings, depending of course, on the exact speed and capacity you are looking for. Both PC2100 256-MB and PC2700 256-MB reflect smaller $1 drops, while PC3200 1-GB shows a $3 cut - down to $65 this week. A vendor change brings forth a newer, lower price of $93 on PC4000 1-GB, which is a $13 savings. The price of PC4200 512-MB also dropped $3 to $50 this week. DDR2 prices also took a dive in some areas. Several modules fell in price within the $1 to $2 range, while DDR2-800 512-MB dropped $4 to $78 and DDR2-533 1-GB decreased by $6 to $68 this week. The only price increase we found was a $7 jump to DDR2-667 256-MB - now selling at $65. Notorious for its standstill pricing, RDRAM had only two modules with any price change at all. First, a small $2 savings can be had on PC800 512-MB, which is now sitting at $95. We also see the price of PC800 ECC 256MB go up $5 to $85 this week. While changes are small on RDRAM, consistent pricing is still better than an increase. As we head into the last week of August, we're just not seeing many good deals on system memory to boost those back-to-school systems. Buyers looking specifically for PC133 CAS3 512-MB or DDR2-533 1-GB will enjoy the $6 drop in price to $62 and $68, respectively. The lower price of $93 for PC4000 1-GB is also attractive but the $7 increase on DDR2-667 256MB might make some think twice before purchasing. With such overly stagnant price charts these past couple of months, its important to remember that we don't factor in shipping costs on top of memory prices so looking for a good shipping deal might, in the end, save you more money overall.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
