Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of September 10, 2007 - Page 2By Vangie Beal September 10, 2007This week it looks like we're seeing a definite price drop trend on PC133 ECC modules. PC133 ECC 128-MB may have fallen by only a dollar but it is now selling for an online retail price of only $6. PC133 ECC 256-MB dropped $5 to $19 while PC133 ECC 512-MB hit a lower price of $30 this week. The only other price change on SDRAM is a $4 increase on the price of PC133 CAS3 512MB. This particular module went down in price in our last guide from $68 to $62 and is now selling for $66. This week we noticed several online vendors shaving DDR prices to compete for the lowest price on shopping engines. At the time, we did the price checks, online vendor StarMicro took the win with its $1 price drops across the board on PC2100 and most PC3200 modules. In addition to the plentiful single dollar savings, we found PC3200 1-GB for $59, which is a $6 drop, and PC4200 512-MB fell $2 to $48 this week. DDR2 memory is also showing a decline in prices. The magic number here is seven, as DDR2-533 1-GB dropped $7 to $61, DDR2-667 256-MB shed $7 to $58 and DDR2-667 1-GB fell by $7 to $68. The number two was also a DDR2 repeat this week, with a $2 savings being offered on DDR2-1000 512-MB and a $2 increase on the price of DDR2-800 512-MB. In our last guide we saw the price of PC800 512-MB drop $2 to $95 and this week it followed up with a larger $6 drop, bringing this memory down to only $89. Other savings are smaller, like the $1 discount on PC800 128-MB and a $2 savings on PC800 ECC 128-MB. The only RDRAM module to increase in price this week is PC800 ECC 256-MB, which is up by $4 to $89. Overall memory prices are dropping, but these continue to move slowly over a longer period of time. Where a year ago we would see several $5 and above price drops, now we're finding that same decrease combined over a four to six week period, with only one or two dollars being shaved at a time. DDR2 memory offers the best deals this week with the larger $7 price drops on DDR2-533 1-GB, DDR2-667 256-MB, and DDR2-667 1-GB. It would seem that fewer online vendors are stocking PC3500, PC3700, and PC4000, and as such, most DDR-SDRAM modules we list remain unchanged in price again this week. PC133 offers consumers a few larger $4 price drops, making it a potentially more attractive buy this week. When shopping online for system memory, remember to check with local franchise retails stores to see if they are willing to come close or even price match Internet vendor prices, giving you, the consumers the best deal as shipping costs won't need to be factored in.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
