Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of October 8, 2007 - Page 2By Vangie Beal October 8, 2007Over the past four weeks, we've seen SDRAM prices initially go down, and then show only a few small changes in the following weeks. This week stays on that latest trend with only one price difference - and that is only a $2 price drop on PC133 CAS3 512MB, now selling for $68. DDR-SDRAM prices have settled down a bit after several price drops in our last memory guide. PC2100 512-MB, PC2700 256-MB, and PC2700 512-MB are each down in price by $1 this week, and we also have a bit larger $6 drop on PC3200 1-GB - which is now at $61. The big savings comes in on PC4200 512-MB which fell $10 to $38 this week with a new vendor listing. The only module in this category to increase is PC4000 1-GB, which jumped $2 to $118 this week. The DDR2 prices are a bit of a mixed bag of goodies. Those looking specifically for DDR2-533 1-GB or DDR2-1000 1-GB will save $4 and $6, respectively. DDR2-533 512-MB also dropped by $2 and we didn't spot a single price increase on DDR2 memory this week. While the majority of RDRAM prices remained consistent, two modules dropped slightly. PC800 ECC 256MB and PC800 ECC 512MB both fell by $7, falling to $68 and $82, respectively. Otherwise, it was a long string of zeros for the other RDRAM listings, although this is much better news than price increases. Some consumers can find relief from the high price of memory, but it still comes down to the exact type of memory upgrade you are looking for. While we see a few attractive price drops, such as the $10 savings on PC4200 512-MB and the $51 price tag on PC3200 1GB, which is $6 less than our last report, price changes are random and do not follow suit on any one type of module or speed. When looking to buy memory online, it is to your own benefit to check vendor Web sites and see if you can nab a shipping deal, which can add up to a greater dollar savings on your final purchase price. Remember - shipping costs are not factored into the SharkyExtreme Memory price Guide.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
