High-End Memory Prices - Week of December 24, 2007 - Page 3By SharkyExtreme.com Staff December 27, 2007The standard desktop market for registered DDR begins and ends with the Athlon 64 FX-based platforms, but there are a wide range of high-end workstation and small business servers that utilize this same memory format. Since the desktop market utilizes 400 MHz PC3200 Registered DDR, that is where we concentrate our price listings, and even though Socket 940 is just a fond memory, these continue to be an upgrade option for many desktop users. Due to the lower number of available registered DDR modules, we've gone a bit outside the Top 5 manufacturers, and also listed both the single module and matched pair PC3200 DDR prices. We have also started to add in Registered DDR2 listings, as well as FB-DIMM entries, all in the 1GB, 2x1GB and 2x2GB memory configurations. Due to the limited desktop market for Registered DDR, we continue to supplement these with module listings for Registered/FB-DIMM DDR2. This will be a slow process, and we hope the result is an even mix of both workstation/server-based memory types. There was some limited activity in the chart, but as we've seen over the last two pages, these served to cancel each other out. Three listings hit double-digit cuts, including Kingston PC2-6400 Registered 2x1-GB (-$14), Crucial PC2-5300 FB-DIMM 2x2-GB (-$12) and Kingston PC2-5300 FB-DIMM 2-GB (-$10), while the only noticeable price increase was a $28 jump to Crucial PC3200 Registered 2x2-GB. As expected, the overall chart movement amounted to only a $2 increase.
