High-End Memory Prices - Week of February 4, 2008 - Page 3By SharkyExtreme.com Staff February 7, 2008The standard desktop market for registered DDR begins and ends with the Athlon 64 FX-based platforms, but there are a wide range of high-end workstation and small business servers that utilize this same memory format. Since the desktop market utilizes 400 MHz PC3200 Registered DDR, that is where we concentrate our price listings, and even though Socket 940 is just a fond memory, these continue to be an upgrade option for many desktop users. Due to the lower number of available registered DDR modules, we've gone a bit outside the Top 5 manufacturers, and also listed both the single module and matched pair PC3200 DDR prices. We have also started to add in Registered DDR2 listings, as well as FB-DIMM entries, all in the 1GB, 2x1GB and 2x2GB memory configurations. Due to the limited desktop market for Registered DDR, we continue to supplement these with module listings with Registered/FB-DIMM DDR2. This week our chart is relatively stable, if you take out a single drop. The price of ATP PC3200 Registered 1-GB fell by $36, but that was the only listing that even hit double-digits. A $5 price cut to Corsair PC2-5300 Registered 2-GB and a $9 spike to Crucial PC2-5300 FB-DIMM 1-GB were the only two that even came close, and overall, these tended to cancel each other out. The chart trends mirrored this, with an aggregate chart drop of only $34, and a lone individual price cut of $36 contributing the vast majority of that.
