Memory Pricing Guide |
High-End Memory Prices - Week of February 16, 2009 - Page 2By SharkyExtreme.com Staff February 17, 2009The dual-channel memory format is the standard for high-end performance systems, and is the de facto packaging for most DDR memory. The "matched pair" format has become very popular, as these DDR module kits are perfectly suited for the requirements of high-end dual-channel DDR operation, and are a much safer buy than purchasing one module now and hoping to match it up later. The most popular configurations are currently the 2x512MB and 2x1GB kits (although 2x2GB are emerging) and with few exceptions, vendors offer the same basic speeds in matched pair DDR kits, as with their single module DDR. The news in the dual-channel DDR chart isn't any better that in its single-module counterpart, and is actually worse. There was not a single price drop in the entire chart, and only six of the listings remained at the same price. The rest showed price increases, with six posting double-digit spikes, including the PNY Optima PC3200 2x1GB (+$25), Mushkin Enhanced PC3200 2x1GB (+$19) and pqi POWER PC3200 2x1GB (+$18) matched pair kits. The overall chart movement obviously resulted in an increase, with the dual-channel DDR chart jumping by an aggregate total of $150.
