Memory Pricing Guide |
Weekly Memory Prices - Week of Nov 4, 2001 - Page 2By Vangie Beal November 7, 2001
Prices on SDRAM are once again mainly dropping in price by $1 and $2. We also finally hit the "Under $5" mark, this, week as both PC100 and PC 133 CAS3 64mb modules went down to $4.00 each. Overall, twenty-one of the 23 SDRAM modules we listed dropped slightly this week; very good news, indeed, for those looking to upgrade their memory this week! Interestingly enough, in mid-November of 2000, we found PC 133 512mb at the low price of $379.00. One year later its tracked $49.00. Simply mind-boggling! There was very little change overall in the price of DIMMs this week. As mentioned last week, the prices given at Crucial end up being cheaper when you take shipping prices into account (a difference of $10+), which is why the seemingly "higher" prices have been listed in our guide. Other than that, PC 2100 512 mb dropped down a dollar (at First Choice memory) to $54.00. Overall, RDRAM prices are going down. But as per usual, it is going down by wee bits at a time, and moving slowly indeed! Since the major price drops on memory started, RDRAM has been the memory with the smallest price drops, percentage-wise; but slowly, it is becoming more affordable to the average consumer (those lucky enough to be running a P4 system). Surprisingly enough, the biggest RDRAM drop this week is on the higher-end PC800 ECC 512mb RIMM, which dropped $14 to $285.00, once again bringing the price down to being even with the non-ECC PC800 512mb memory. The memory price list goes on as usual with some extra little drops in SDRAM, perhaps making up for the price increases we saw on this type of memory two weeks ago. For the first time, memory modules in our guide went below $5.00. If you can use PC100 (or PC133), 64mb now is the time to scoop it up!
