Weekly Memory Prices - Week of Nov 11, 2001 - Page 2By Vangie Beal November 15, 2001
The big and bad news this week is that all the SDRAM prices have either stayed the same as last week or gone up in price. Several modules listed went up ranging from $9 to $11, for example. And the worst of the increases was an $11 jump on PC150 256mb memory, now at $26.00. The PC100 and PC 133 CAS3 64mb modules, which went down to $4 last week, are now back up to $8 and $9. Still, even with this week's price increases, the prices overall are still quite low. We can still hope to see a few more drops next week. Unlike SDRAM, this week we didn't chart a single price change on the DIMMs we list in the price guide. While we don't have any good news of falling prices, thankfully we're not seeing any price increases at this time. As a last reminder (for those who may have missed last week's price guide) the prices given at Crucial end up being cheaper when you take shipping prices into account (a difference of $10+), which is why the seemingly "higher" prices have been listed in our guide. RDRAM prices, this week, are a mixed bag of goods. In the RDRAM category, we have a couple price increases, a price decrease, and some with no price change at all. PC800 128mb went down $2 (our biggest drop) to a total price of $36.00, while the PC800 ECC 128mb went up $4 to $47.00 this week. The price on PC800 512mb and ECC 512mb remained steady at $285.00 each. We're seeing quite variety of price changes, this week, including increases, decreases, unchanged prices. The SDRAM prices really threw me for a loop - I admit to running searches several times on the first few because after weeks of price drops it just seemed wrong to see a $10 increase in this category. Definitely a disappointing week for those who didn't pick up their SDRAM last week.
