Weekly Memory Prices
SDRAM
While we hoped last week's price increases were to be simply a "one time thing," this week proves that was only wishful thinking. Out of the twenty-four modules we list under SDRAM we see eighteen of them going up in prices ranging from $1 to $19. Most noticeable were the 256 MB and 512MB memory DIMMS, which took a few large hops up in price. PC133 CAS3 512MB DIMMS, for example, went up $16 to $55.00 this week, and even PC100 CAS2 ECC 256mb shot up $5 to $35.00. Lets hope price increases ins't going to be the new trend.
DDR SDRAM
Following suit with SDRAM, the prices on DIMMs are on the rise by $1 - $3 as well. We did see one rather massive price increase, which actually resulted in a rather large influx of e-mail from Sharky Readers. As of the time of putting this week's guide together the best price I could find from a reputable online vendor for PC 2100 512MB was $79.00. That's up $25.00 from last week! A price decrease on any DDR SDRAM just couldn't be found this week.
RDRAM
As odd as it may seem, RDRAM was the only memory type to show any price drops at all. But despite those price drops, PC800 is still the most expensive memory on the chart. PC800 ECC 512mb RIMMS saw the biggest drop of any RAM module, this week, coming down in price by $4 to settle in at $281.00.
Overall
The news for those looking to upgrade memory isn't very positive this week. Overall, we're seeing only a few small price decreases, with most RAM modules going up in price... some by quite a bit. Pentium 4 owners are still paying high prices for their RDRAM; but once again, the prices of a few of the PC800 RIMMS are dropping by a few dollars if you're looking for an upgrade.
