Memory Pricing Guide |
Weekly Memory Prices - Week of Dec 30, 2001 - Page 2By Vangie Beal January 4, 2002
Well... let's just be blunt. Prices are up pretty much across the board in this category (and in most of this guide as a whole). But most of the increases are only a few dollars here and there, with the highest being the $9 jump on the price PC133 CAS3 512mb DIMMs. This category saw the biggest price increases, including a whopping $55 jump in the price of PC2100 512MB DIMMs, which went up to $162 each. Now would be a good time to start kicking yourself if you had been planning to buy DDR-SDRAM back a month or two ago and decided to wait and see if prices go down further. Well this category saw the only two drops on the chart, including an $11 decrease PC800 512MB RIMMS and a $1 drop on the price of PC800 64MB RIMMS. But alas, the rest of the category either held steady or went up a bit. So even though this category, which had been continuing to drop (partly due to its starting out so overpriced), is now seeing price increases become the norm. If you got excited by those handful of small price drops that seemed to show up in the last week of the year, welcome back to the world of price increases. We saw only 2 price drops this week, with almost every price in the guide going up. And to think, just 2 months ago we would spend each week wondering how much lower prices could possibly go.
