Memory Pricing Guide |
Weekly Memory Prices - Week of Jan 06, 2002 - Page 2By Vangie Beal January 9, 2002
It seems that price increases are here to stay for awhile yet. This week, we see quite a few price increases... especially on 512mb modules. PC133 ECC 512mb of memory is going to cost you $90.00; that's up $21 from last week. PC133 CAS2 512mb went up $16 to $90.00, this week, as well. All is not bad news in SDRAM, however, as we do see a couple modules drop by $1-3 this week; but the drops are tiny when compared to the sheer number of increased SDRAM prices. As expected, DDR SDRAM suffered a couple hikes in prices as well. Most noticeable is the $11 increase on PC2100 256mb DIMMs, which are now selling for $83.00. The only price drop on DDR SDRAM is -$1 on PC2400 256mb which, is now at $79.00. Surprisingly enough, RDRAM prices seem to be dropping more this week than other memory modules. We see four smaller price drops here, along with one $14 increase on PC800 512mb (which is now at $268.00). This week, we're seeing the biggest price increases on 512mb modules of all types. And since Hynix Semiconductor announced a 30% price increase on chips (with Samsung expected to follow), we're likely to keep seeing more price increases in our memory guide. I don't think the price hikes are quite over yet, but lets hope for even some more 'stagnant' prices, if not more price drops, over the coming week.
