Weekly Memory Prices - Week of Feb 10, 2002 - Page 2By Vangie Beal February 14, 2002
While we can hardly call the SDRAM an active category yet, there are a couple of price changes this week. We see a couple of small $2 drops to start with; and we have a $5.00 drop on PC133 ECC 256mb modules, bringing the price down to an even $50.00, this week. PC100 CAS2 ECC 256mb went down $4 to $64.00. On the rise is PC100 CAS2 ECC 256mb, which went up $4 to $25.00. A few others went up by $2, as well, this week. SDRAM prices overall, however, aren't changing much.
Crucial made a couple minor price changes on their website (so it would seem); but short of those, DDR SDRAM prices are still not moving very much in either direction. This week, we're actually seeing some price movement on RDRAM. PC800 512mb shot up $17 to $157.00, while PC800 ECC 512mb went down $9 to $38.00 and PC800 ECC 256mb went down $7 to $80.00. In light of recent price increases, seeing memory prices remain constant is as much as consumers can really ask for. Since memory prices can go up and down, daily, depending on market conditions and availability, we suggest you use our guide only to provide you with an idea on where prices are heading. Many vendors also state that their price is specifically for a phone order, you should be reminded, while others offer their lowest prices on online orders. Do yourselves a favor and check prices again before deciding whether or not to buy, as prices have been changing (usually increasing) so quickly that most of this guide is unlikely to remain accurate for a day, let alone a week. We can all hope for some better prices on memory for consumers next week... but unfortunately, I wouldn't count on it!
